It’s new and different, but it’s also something that’s oddly appealing. It’s a weapon that’s very different to any other Exotic in Destiny 2, one that might mark a new direction that Bungie is taking the game in. Tommy’s Matchbook is in a league of its own, but not because it’s better than anything else. They all boost a Guardian’s performance because of something interesting that they do, but they don’t harm the Guardian to compensate for that, neither do they take something away instead. The issue with Cerberus +1, Hard Light, Monte Carlo, SUROS Regime, and Sweet Business is that their Intrinsic perks don’t have a downside that harms the Guardian using them. Honestly, it’s not fair to compare Tommy’s Matchbook to any other Exotic Auto Rifle. It's not amazing than other pulse rifles in PvP but it's exotic perk will definitely give you an advantage. Fourth horseman has pretty good DPS for PvE Truth is only good in Gambit Bad Juju is the best choice there as it's great for Super-based builds in PvE.

  • Heat Sink – The damage to the user from overheating is reduced when not aiming down the sights. Tommy's Matchbook is the worst option, not worth it.
  • Extended Mag – Greatly increases magazine size, but greatly decreases reload speed.
  • Hammer-Forged Rifling – Increases Range.
  • Intrinsic Perk: Ignition Trigger – Sustained fire will increase the damage this weapon deals, but burn the user.
  • For now, let’s dive into what makes this Auto Rifle tick. The first step will require you to kill 100 guardians in Crucible with an auto rifle, score 200 multikills with an auto rifle, and earn 400 points. He’ll give you a new exotic quest, called A Good Match. That’s not possible with Tommy’s Matchbook, but we’ll get to that. Once you’ve obtained Tommy’s Matchbook, go and talk to Banshee-44, the gunsmith at the Tower. Usually in these articles we look to analyse everything about a weapon, how good it is, and then compare it to the rest of the Exotic weapons in that category to work out which is the best. So Protective Light's incoming damage reduction with Tricksleeves activated, or stack outgoing damage from Surprise Attack with Tricksleeves. When it comes to Exotic Auto Rifles, Tommy’s Matchbook is something very different, added with Season of the Worthy.

I was going to ask about using the CWL mod Protective Light with this for some added survivability, but it will use up all of your stacks.leaving none for Surprise Attack. Anyway, what are your experiences with getting the regen to work? I'm sure this helmet could use a buff in general, but I'm wondering if this weapon that hurts you has any synergy with a helmet that heals on kill when you're hurt.ĮDIT 2: Fellow Hunters! Bit of a longshot, but what about using Tommy's Matchbook to trigger the damage needed to proc Mechaneer's Tricksleeves? If you happened to have the CWL mod Surprise Attack, that could be really nasty. Even Touch of Malice from D1 did that.ĮDIT: Hey Titans! I love the look of Mask of the Quiet One, with that 'Thanatonaut's Peril' ornament. Kills or maybe multikills while burning heal you.

If I have to be hurt at all using this thing, then give me a way to heal. Might be nice for harder targets.ĭo kills heal you any? That's another thing I'd want. So with that kind of ignorance around the weapon in mind, what if it dealt some burn damage too? You get into that high heat mode, then hit for more damage and do some DOT as well. The trade-off was so distasteful to me that I never actually tried it. So yeah, useless outside of being a meme, and needs to be re-worked. It even has better overall DPS against majors + bosses. Right now you're better off just using Sweet Business, which does everything Tommy's wants to do x1000.

And even then, the main function is kind of being lost as it's a gun we're supposed to spray and mow down enemies in front of us with before they kill us - which it doesn't even do that effectively due to it's really poor output when proc'd. It only really becomes useable if you have a heavily decked out build for preserving your health like with "protective light" and Karnstein armlets, or something similar. It is basically max risk, no reward for using it. It is a really poor output for a gun with this kind of perk. Examples such as Ticuu's Divination causality arrows, Hawkmoon, and Lucky Pants damage buff x Malfeasance synergy all can make a difference in encounters against the big enemies.įor the health trade off with the damage boost on Tommy's, we're getting damage that barely deletes a rank and file in "Hero" nightfalls while our health trickles to 1-shot death. Some amazing work has gone into guns since Hawkmoon, with exotic primaries that can actually make a difference against a major / champion or boss for DPS.

If exotics that are underused such as DARCI and Whisper are finally getting some love, this gun deserves the same treatment.
